CGTC’s Hawkinsville Workforce Development Center is Named Business of the Month

Hawkinsville, Ga. – The Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce named the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Hawkinsville Workforce Development Center (HWDC) its March 2017 Business of the Month in a ceremony on Wednesday March 1, 2017 at the Center.

The Chamber voted on HWDC to receive the award for its continued service to the area, its impact on the economy and its workforce and educational development.

“We are grateful to be a service to this community and have a team that is a catalyst for workforce development in Hawkinsville,” said Marcus Early, the director of HWDC. “It is an honor to receive such credible recognition. It shows the region that CGTC is committed to making a positive impact in the many lives it serves.”

Attendees at the event took part in a tour of the facility and learned about the services, classes, and programs the Center offers.

Through the HWDC, CGTC is able to offer technical certificate and degree level instruction in Health Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance, Commercial Truck Driving, and various other high-demand occupational programs, as well as, Adult Education.

A small team of instructors actually teach at the site, while the other portion of instruction is delivered through a telepresence system that allows instructors to be on any CGTC campus and teach a course that is delivered via digital monitors into classrooms at the Center.

The HWDC has recently been able to strengthen its program offerings and instructional delivery due to the level of rapport it has built in the community and with Hawkinsville High School. CGTC provides more Move on When Ready (MOWR) high school dual enrollment programs to more students in Pulaski County than any other college.

In April, the HWDC will be one of the locations where CGTC’s Continuing Education Department will offer an American Sign Language course two nights a week.

“We have already began to receive a good number of sign-ups for this course, so it shows you if a need is there, we can meet it,” Early said.

For more information on program and course offerings at the HWDC, contact Marcus Early at or 478-218-3230.
